The video methods of the XML API can be used without requiring users to have an AOL or AIM account.

The user methods of the XML API encapsulate functionality that allows individual users to personalize an application to suit their interests. In order to use the user methods of the XML API, each user must have a valid AOL or AIM screen name, and each user must sign in to his or her AOL or AIM account. Applications that leverage these user methods must perform the necessary authentication for each user account.
