1. Why do I need a director account?

A director account allows you to surface your videos in Truveo-powered video search engines. This gives you the potential to expose your videos to millions of our regular video search users.

2. Are director accounts free?

Absolutely. We do not charge for director accounts.

3. What is a key file and why do I need one?

A key file is a small file that we generate for you. This file is unique to your director account. This is our way of verifying that you control the web site for which you are submitting feeds. You wouldn't want just anyone to be able to submit a feed for your site would you?

4. Isn't it a security risk if others can read my key file?

Not really. There is no secret information in the key file. Think of it as just a random number we generate and associate with your account. If someone copies your key file to their site it won't matter, since we only check for key files on sites that you have told us you own. Having your key file on another site just means someone is wasting a little disk space. Of course, nothing is ever 100 percent secure when you're talking about the Internet, so caveat emptor.

5. What happens if the key file is removed?

If the key file is removed, then we will no longer crawl the Media RSS feeds configured under your director account. If you want us to stop crawling your feeds, you can simply remove the key file from your site.

6. What if I can't put the key file on my server?

If you can't put the key file on your server, then we will not crawl your feeds and your videos will only show up in our results when we crawl your site.

7. What happens if the employee with the director account for my site leaves the company?

If you no longer want your ex-employee controlling the feeds for your site, you can simply remove the employee's key file from your site. We will no longer use feeds from the director account associated with that key file.

8. How long will it take for my videos to show up in the video search results?

Once your director account is approved and you have submitted your feed, you can expect your videos to show up in our search results very quickly, usually within minutes under normal circumstances. Truveo at all times reserves the option to exclude, reject, or remove any or all of your videos from our search index.

9. How often will my feed be crawled?

When you configure a feed you specify how often we should crawl your feed. We will do our best to crawl your feed at the specified interval. However, we can't guarantee that we will crawl your feed at any specific rate.

10. Do I need to put all my videos in the feed?

No, but only the videos in your feed can be surfaced in our search results.

11. What if I want to remove a video from Truveo's video search index?

First you should remove those videos from your Media RSS feeds. After that you should remove them from your site. Our crawlers regularly confirm that videos are still valid. (We call this dead link checking.) If you remove the video from your site, our dead link checker will confirm that it is gone, and remove the video from our search index.

12. Which Media RSS tags are required for each of my videos?

The more fields you include, the better your video will look in our search results. That being said, you must provide a title, description, and link for each video. You can use the basic RSS tags (<title>, <description>, <link>), the Media RSS tags (<media:title>,<media:description>,<media:player url=>), or mix and match.

13. Can users tag my videos?

Currently we do not support user tagging of videos in our search engine. As a content provider, you may associate tags with your videos by placing those tags in the <media:keywords> field of your Media RSS feed.

14. Can I give you a feed of videos I'm selling?

Yes, you may include videos for sale or for rent. We can surface those videos in our search engine along with any related e-commerce information provided by you in your feed. See the e-commerce section of our Director Documentation.

15. How many videos can I add?

We do not limit the total number of videos you can submit, but we do limit the rate at which you can submit them. In any 24 hour period, we will add at most 10,000 videos to our search engine. The limit may change in the future.

16. Why are my videos flagged as adult?

If your site contains adult content, it will be flagged as adult and you will need to turn off the family filter prior to your search. Please visit http://www.truveo.com/adultFAQ.php to read about Truveo video adult categorization.

17. What if my site has adult as well as non-adult content and I don't want my non-adult content to be filtered?

If your site contains both adult and non-adult content, you can submit a seperate feed for each.

18. Are there any restrictions on the size of my feed/videos?

Currently, we only accept feeds smaller than 10 megabytes in size. If you are submitting large feeds, you'll need a reasonably fast connection. We won't process your feed if it takes us more than a few minutes to download. You may submit videos of any size, but the metadata associated with them must be less than 10 kilobytes (about 10,000 English characters).
