Overview of the Truveo Director Accounts
The Truveo Director program is a FREE feature for site owners or content publishers. It's a quick and easy way to get your content into our video search index. Upon successful registration, Directors will receive the following benefits:
  • Ability to upload RSS feeds of your content
  • Instant validation of your RSS feed
  • Near real-time indexing of your video assets in our search engine
  • Exposure on API sites in the Truveo network.
Note: Truveo at all times reserves the option to exclude, reject, or remove any or all of your videos from our search index. (There, the lawyer made me say it.)
Director Account Requirements
There are few requirements for director accounts.
  • A valid AOL or AIM Screen Name.
We need a way for you to log into your director account. Rather than generating yet another login and password for you to remember, we use the AOL Screen Name Service. Millions of people have an AOL or AIM screen names. If you're not one of those lucky folks, sign up here for your free screen name. (Having a screen name also allows you to rate videos and mark videos as favorites, but you don't need a director account for that.)
  • A publicly available web site with video content.
Your site should be a publicly available web site, otherwise there's really no reason to have it in our search engine is there? You also need to have video on your site. We only index video. If your site doesn't have video, a Truveo Director account isn't something you need.
  • A publicly available Media RSS feed.
We need to be able to download your feed. This means our crawlers must be able to reach the feed through a publicly available HTTP URL. Your feed should describe the videos on your site using the standard Media RSS format. The Media RSS tags we support are described here.
  • You must be authorized to submit feeds by the web site owner.
You must have permission of the site owner to submit the feed. You can't submit a feed for someone else's site without their permission.
  • Ability to verify you can control files on the site.
We need to make sure you really do have permission to submit feeds for a site. We do this by asking you to put a special key file on the site. This is a simple text file that we generate for you. Don't worry, we'll lead you through this process. If you can't put the file on the site right away, we'll still create your account but you'll need to verify the site with the key file before we'll start taking your feeds.
Steps to Create a Director Account
If you meet the above requirements, you can follow these steps to get going with your director account.
  • Sign up for a director account here.
(You'll be asked to log into your Screen Name account if you're not logged in already.) To sign up you need to accept our director account agreement.
  • Add a feed.
Your director account is created when you accept the director account agreement. The next step is to add a feed. If this is the first feed you're submitting for a site, you'll need to verify the site by placing a key file on your site.
  • Wait for approval.
The first time you add a site we need to have one of our Video Search Associates review your site. Once you've verified the site with the key file, we'll review the application. We'll approve your account as long as it meets the requirements described above regarding director accounts. When your account is approved or denied we'll send you an email to the email associated with your screen name. If you have a screen name, you can check your email at http://mail.aol.com/. You can also log into your director account to check the status of your account.
  • Add more feeds.
Once your director account has been approved for a site, you can immediately add new feeds for that domain at any time, without needing to go through the verification and approval process. Those new feeds will be automatically scheduled for crawling and should show up in our search index within minutes. Of course it may take longer depending on the load of our systems and any maintenance we may be doing when you submit your feed.
That's all there is to it. See our Director FAQ if you have any questions regarding director accounts. Click here to get started.
Creating a Truveo Media RSS Feed
We support Media RSS feeds as the mechanism for submitting videos to our index. We will only add videos to our index, not other kinds of files like audio or images. We accept feeds based on the Media RSS standard.
